Corrective Chiropractic Can Help With Spinal Deformities

We have all seen those people when we are out and about that seem to have a hump on their back and it looks like they are in extreme discomfort, which I assure you they are. Have you ever wondered what caused this or how this is affecting this person’s body and organs? To most people’s surprise, this condition is not something that they were typically born with. This is something where the underlying condition has progressed so much that this person’s spine is literally collapsing on itself and the person can no longer stand up straight no matter how hard they try. Let’s talk about some of the common causes of this condition and how they can be treated.

Causes:

Probably the number one cause that we see here at the Functional Wellness Center in Scottsdale Arizona is a spinal scoliosis that has been left untreated or not treated properly that has progressed to a point where the thoracic spine has developed a sever hyperkyphotic structure and has started to collapse on itself. When this happens, it can cause major organ dysfunction especially to the lungs, heart, and upper digestion, just to name a few. Have you ever looked at these people and wonder how do they even take a deep breath? The answer is that they can’t. They commonly have to breathe very shallow because the space that their lungs occupy is being so compressed it will no longer expand to its normal size. And with that happening imagine the pressure that their heart is now under because of the same compressive forces being placed upon it. When you see these people, it is very sad to know that their condition has gotten that far because no one was able to help them and that they were never introduced to a chiropractor that specializes in Chiropractic Biophysics like the ones at the Functional Wellness Center. Some other causes include birth defects where there is a deformity of the spinal bone, Scheuermann Disease that can cause an increased kyphosis of the thoracic spine, and osteoporotic fractures from a loss of bone density causing misshaped vertebra that results in a spinal deformity most commonly forward collapsing of the spine. Another common denominator you see with people with a hump or Hunchback is a core muscle weakness from lack of exercise and fitness overall. Their body does not have the strength it takes to keep them upright when they possess any type of spinal issue or deformity.

Treatments:

Depending on how far your condition has progressed from normal will dictate which treatment is right for you. If your condition is in the extreme or advanced stage surgery may be your only option. A surgeon will have to most likely fuse your vertebra together and put metal rods to try to straighten your spine up as much as possible. The unfortunate problem with this treatment is the pain that this person will experience for the rest of their lives and will most likely have to seek pain management to try to decrease their pain and discomfort. Some may opt not to have the surgery and just do the pain management. For these people unless they can find an alternative solution their pain may lessen but the progression of the hump back will continue to get worse over time, maybe even to the point of no return.

If you want a natural treatment that does not involve drugs or surgery then the Functional Wellness Center in Scottsdale, Arizona can definitely help.
